Marma therapy training

At Lita’s Ayurveda, Marma Therapy is offered as a gentle and deeply restorative Ayurvedic treatment focused on the body’s vital energy points. These points are known as marma points. They are located where muscles, vessels, ligaments, bones, and joints meet, and are understood in Ayurveda as centers where prana, or life-force energy, flows most strongly.

Through soft, gentle touch, the practitioner encourages these points to open and release tension, clearing energy flow, promoting relaxation and overall balance. The experience is calming and grounding, allowing the body to relax and the mind becomes calm and centered.

Description of marma therapy

Marma is a Sanskrit word meaning secret, hidden, or vital. In Ayurveda, marma points are understood as subtle junctions where consciousness and matter meet, locations in the body where prana, or life-force energy, is especially concentrated.

These points lie along the nadis, the energy channels through which prana flows. Ayurveda identifies 107 specific marma points, each of which serves as a vital node of energy and awareness. A traditional comparison likens the nadis to the cord of a necklace and the marma points to the beads strung along it.

In Ayurveda, this highlights how important and sensitive these points are in the body.

Marma points are seen as places where our physical body and our life-energy, or prana, closely interact. These points can be affected not only by physical injury but also by stress, emotional strain, trauma, or imbalance in the doshas. When a marma point becomes blocked, the natural flow of prana can slow down, affecting how we feel both physically and emotionally.

By learning about marma and working with these points gently, we can help promote better energy flow and support a sense of balance, clarity, and a sense of wellbeing within. Marma therapy encourages the body and mind to relax, release tension, and return to a more natural state of harmony.
